None of the 90 percent of children tested following a dental health scare have contracted an illness, the Counties Manukau District Health Board says.

The families of 2500 children were contacted to undergo testing for HIV and Hepatitis B and C, after faulty equipment was found to have been used at Pukekohe Intermediate's dental clinic.

It was discovered that a hose used to suck out saliva and blood from children's mouths was connected to one that blows in air.

The District Health Board has been calling all families whose children have yet to be tested to ask them to drop in to the Pukekohe Hospital.

"We have tried to make contact with some families multiple times with no success," chief medical officer Gloria Johnson said.

"We are aware of a small number who are out of the area and overseas and have made plans for them," Dr Johnson said.
