Salvage of wrecked fishing boat completed

The wreck of a fishing boat, which ran aground off the Eastern Bay of Plenty coast mid-year, has been successfully removed from the coast at Opotiki.

Two crew members died when the 18 metre San Cuvier was grounded on a rocky stretch of coastline east of Opape in July during a violent storm. It had 11,000 litres of diesel fuel on board.

Steve Pickles from the Bay of Plenty Regional Council says the removal operation took a month to complete and went according to plan.
