Two people who lived in a house damaged by fire in Waikato are believed to have been away from the property when the blaze broke out.
Firefighters were called to the house in Mangakino around 4.30am.
Crews contained the fire but the Fire Service had said it was not known whether the people who lived at the Rimu Street house were at home when the fire broke out.
Police later said it was believed no-one was inside at the time of the fire.
An investigator from the Fire Service was examining the scene.
