Slip on SH6 near Queenstown

3:12 pm on 29 December 2008

A slip delayed holiday traffic on State Highway 6 near Queenstown on Saturday. It was caused by a burst water pipe.

The pipe supplies a small power plant on Wye Creek near Lake Wakatipu. It burst on Saturday afternoon and brought down a bank across the highway.

More than 500 cars were stranded for more than four hours.

The slip has been removed and the Transport Agency says the pipe is being repaired. It says motorists should not face any further delays.
