The 59-year-old man charged with a sex attack on a young woman at an Auckland quarry can now be named.
Colin Jack Mitchell appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday charged with kidnapping, causing grievous bodily harm and assaulting a woman with intent to sexually violate her.
He was arrested at his home in Onehunga on Sunday.
Judge Nevin Dawson yesterday granted Mr Mitchell interim name suppression so he could notify his family of the charges, but the suppression order lapsed at midnight.
The judge also declined bail.
Mr Mitchell has denied all the charges and has chosen trial by jury.
The woman was abducted from Ponsonby on a Saturday night two weeks ago and woke up in a quarry, to find a man standing over her with a bat.
