Traffic delays on SH1 as fans head to Adele

3:14 pm on 25 March 2017

There is severe traffic congestion on State Highway One between Auckland and Waikato as fans head to tonight's Adele concert at Mt Smart stadium.

Traffic is being held up by a car crash near Taupiri on SH1.

Police are advising drivers to consider using other routes, for example to head north through Morrinsville to SH27 and then join SH2 to Bombay.

Adele's series of concerts has been rapturously received by her fans but has caused some traffic headaches.

There were significant traffic delays across Auckland before her first concert on Thursday.

That show coincided with rush hour in the city and people were warned to allow several hours to get the stadium.

More than 130,000 people have tickets for the three concerts which sold out in less than half an hour in November.
