Thomas John Evans, 30, and Jenna Frances Craig, 26, died after their plane crashed on a farm property around Kaka Point, The Catlins, about 10am yesterday.
The farm owner's son found the wreckage.
Civil Aviation Authority investigators have started examining the crash site in an joint investigation with police. It is expected to take two days to complete.
The coroner is overseeing the investigation.
