Police said a search was started when the girl was reported lost yesterday afternoon.

A few hours later, crews at the top of the cliff located the teenager and a volunteer was lowered down the cliff and the girl was pulled up.

Police said by then it was dark and too unsafe for four searchers at the bottom of the cliff to walk out of the gorge, so they were also pulled up the cliff face.

The girl's mother thanked the rescue teams, saying "They are amazing people, especially as they are volunteers helping out on a long weekend".
