Small number of problems in home insulation scheme

A small number of potential safety problems are still being found in the work done under the Government's home insulation scheme.

The subsidy offers home owners and tenants up to to $1800 for insulation or a clean heating device. About 43,000 homes have been fitted out since its introduction in July last year.

Figures released on Tuesday show less than 1%, or three out of the 478 jobs audited in April had potential safety issues, including putting insulation too close to a heat source.

It is about the same level found in auditing earlier this year, and better than the 3.2% of jobs identified as having potential safety issues in 2009.
