11:26 am on 3 May 2017

High winds have caused a campervan to roll off SH6 in Canterbury, and police are warning other high vehicles to stay away.

A police spokesperson says the campervan rolled at 9.40am this morning in Burkes Pass, between Fairlie and Tekapo, but no one was injured.

Police are now at the scene, as well as the fire service and an ambulance, but it will be some time before the campervan can be towed out of the ditch.

The spokesperson said the road was not blocked.

Metservice has issued a strong wind warning in the area.

Police have advised motorists with high-sided vehicles and motorbikes to avoid the road.
