The domain was one of four parks used as temporary villages after the 2011 Canterbury earthquake but displaced people have not been accommodated there since April last year, and the 22 houses have been sold.

Building and Construction Minister Nick Smith formally handed the remediated site back to the council this morning.

A temporary village in New Brighton will close next month, and homes in the Linwood Park village have been sold to Christchurch City Council, which is continuing to operate it as temporary housing.

The temporary village in Bromley is expected to close by the end of this year.
