A man sentenced to prison for six years for stealing almost $18 million from the ASB bank has been ordered to repay $14 million.

Stephen Versalko was sentenced in March this year when it was revealed he had spent the money on prostitutes and property.

At a hearing on Thursday, the Auckland High Court granted an application by ASB for $14 million to be repaid. Versalko did not oppose the request.

ASB has refused to comment on whether it will realistically be able to retrieve the money.

In a separate civil case, it is seeking money from a woman who received more than $2 million from Versalko.
