5:14 pm on 11 June 2017

The death of a newborn baby boy in Auckland late last month is being treated as suspicious, police say.

Police said the boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition on 23 May.

He died in Starship Hospital three days later.

The baby was born in a south Auckland boarding house, Oceanic Lodge in Māngere.

Police said while they were treating the death as suspicious, they still had a number of enquiries to make.

They were also waiting on the results of forensic testing, which was expected to take a significant amount of time.
