MetService said showers that have crossed the city throughout the day will ease, but more are possible this evening.

Meteorologist Tom Adams said a southwesterly wind was also supposed to ease, but not in time for the 7.35pm kickoff.

He said it would not feel warm, with temperatures around 10°C.

Mr Adams said the breeze would be noticeable for those out and about in the city.

An Auckland Transport spokesperson said the first buses have left from the North Shore and supporters are starting to catch trains to Eden Park.

Gates opened at 4.30pm and cars are free-flowing on the roads that are open around the stadium, as well as on State Highway 1.
