A bus driver has died after his vehicle crashed off a bridge over the Waiau River in north Canterbury.
Police said they were called out to the incident just before 8pm.
The crash has closed Route 70, the Inland Kaikoura Road.
The driver, who was the only person on board, died at the scene.
The Fire Service said the bus was sitting in about 30cm of water.
