Police in Greymouth are searching for a man who robbed a petrol station with a samurai sword.
Officers said the man stole cash from the till of the Greymouth BP about 3am.
The man fled on foot and was seen heading towards Tainui Road.
The sword he was carrying was silver, about 50cm long with a black sheath.
Police said the station attendant was left shaken, but uninjured.
Officers want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious.
