The Desert Road in the central North Island will close for two periods totalling about three hours tomorrow morning while urgent repair work is carried out.
The State Highway will shut from 7.30am until about 9am as engineers survey the damage caused by a crash last Tuesday.
And it'll close again between 10.30am and 12pm while a temporary barrier is installed near the Waihohonu Bridge.
The lines company Powerco estimates it will cost at least $2 million to repair the damage caused by this week's storm, with 1300 customers in Manawatu and Rangitikei still without power.
The Transport Agency is warning of continued icy conditions on roads around the central plateau in the North Island and the lower half of the South Island.
