A 4.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded near Milford Sound, in Fiordland, this morning.
GNS Science says it struck about 4.20am and was centred 60km north-west of the sound.
The earthquake was 12km deep.
It was felt in the Queenstown and Wanaka areas of the South Island.
