Three Southland teenagers have been charged with a shooting spree after a pet goat and a backcountry hut were reportedly shot.

Police said three 17-year-olds have been charged with serious firearms offences after reports a group of young men had shot the pet goat in the outhouse of a remote hut in the Rowallan area on 17 July.

Earlier that night police said they received reports that a group of the same description had also fired shots near another hut, scaring the occupants.

Yesterday police executed search warrants at three separate Riverton addresses.

The trio are due to appear in the Invercargill District Court next week.
