A man who died following a crash near Alexandra early this morning has been named as 19-year-old Ravineel Avikash Sharma.
Police said Mr Sharma, from Alexandra, was the front seat passenger in the vehicle which hit a tree around midnight.
The driver, a 19-year-old Ranfurly man, remained in a critical condition in Dunedin Hospital.
The rear passenger, also 19, received minor injuries.
Police said speed and alcohol were significant factors being considered in the crash investigation.
