Wet weather is due for most of the country this weekend and the Nelson region is in for the heaviest falls.
Rain is spreading over most of the country - other than Southland and Otago - as a low pressure system moves in from the Tasman Sea.
MetService forecasts heavy falls are in the north and west, with biggest downpours likely to be in the Nelson area, west of Motueka.
Up to 200mm could fall in the Nelson ranges and 120-150mm elsewhere.
Rainfall could peak at 15-25mm an hour hour, especially during Sunday, and there could be thunderstorms.
MetService warned there may be surface flooding, slips, and hazardous conditions for drivers, and urged people to stay away from streams and rivers, as they can rise rapidly.
