NZ intelligence role still going - Hager

Author Nicky Hager says the Waihopai base in Marlborough shows New Zealand is still part of a top-secret intelligence sharing agreement that began in the early days of the Cold War.

Newly declassified documents show the United States and the United Kingdom agreed to an alliance in 1946 and Canada joined them in 1948. New Zealand and Australia joined in 1956.

Mr Hager, who wrote Secret Power in 1996, says the alliance is one of the most enduring ever and New Zealand is unlikely to pull out of it.
