Earlier this year Christchurch City Council released a list of 30 properties it considered derelict and undermining confidence in the rebuild.

The list became known as the 'dirty 30'.

At the time, some owners felt they were being bullied by the council.

Six months on, head of urban regeneration, design and heritage Carolyn Ingles said enough progress had been made on eight buildings to take them off the list.

Another nine sites had clear plans and development was expected to start within the next year.

Ms Ingles said a further nine property owners had stated intentions for their sites, but for various reasons were not yet in a position to proceed.

"Owners of the remaining nine sites currently have no confirmed intentions for redevelopment of their sites, with four of these still awaiting the resolution of insurance disputes."

Buildings due to be taken off the list of barrier sites:

  • Former Spagalimis, Victoria Street
  • Public Trust Office Building, Oxford Street
  • Former Work and Income building, High Street
  • Lincoln House, Lichfield Street
  • Duncan's Buildings 135, 143-157, and 163-165 High Street
  • Former Billens Building, High Street
