South Korea accuses north of violating armistice

8:37 pm on 22 November 2017

North Korea violated the armistice agreement when border guards pursued a soldier who defected to the South over a week ago, the US-led UN Command in South Korea says.

The UN Command has released dramatic footage from CCTV cameras.

The defector is seen driving towards the border, getting out of the vehicle and running for the South, breaching the military demarcation line.

Four North Korean border guards are seen pursuing and firing at him.

A North Korean soldier is seen crossing the Military Demarcation Line for a few seconds as others fired shots at the defecting soldier as he ran toward the South side of the frontier.

The defector remains in a South Korean hospital in intensive care with bullet wounds.

CCTV footage released by the UN apparently shows North Korean soldiers shooting at the soldier who defected to the South.
