Drivers will attend a stop-work meeting on Wednesday, affecting routes operated by Go Bus, Valley Flyer and the Airport Flyer between 9am and 2pm.

Tramways Union spokesman Kevin O'Sullivan said drivers will discuss two items at the meeting.

"One is our continuing campaign to have our terms and conditions of employment transferred to new operators in the middle of next year, and the second item is the renewal of our current or just-expired collective agreements with NZ Bus."

Strike action was not on the horizon, but would become a possibility if the union could not strike a deal with the regional council by next June, Mr O'Sullivan said.

Last week train drivers in Wellington went on strike for 24 hours over working conditions.

The Rail and Maritime Transport Union is resuming talks with train management company Transdev today.
