An environmental education group says schools will be hard hit by a rise in energy costs due to the introduction of the Emissions Trading Scheme.
The Enviro Challenge New Zealand Trust says at the same time the Government introduced the ETS, school funding for energy related spending was capped until 2012.
The trust says even more concerning is that a recent survey of 100 high schools showed only 14% of them had an energy management plan.
