A 68 year-old-man has drowned about 5.30pm tonight at Wakapatu Beach in Southland.

Police said the man was snorkeling off the beach in Kawakaputa Bay, about an hour's drive west of Invercargill.
He was found on the surface about 100m out from shore, they said.
The death was being referred to the Coroner.
