The South Wood Exports plant manager said the fire started when a pile of woodchips at the plant combusted.

Fire and Emergency said the blaze among logs and large mounds of wood chips had been contained.

Weather conditions would be taken into account when crews assessed at first light what their next steps should be to put out the fire.

Two crews had been at the scene overnight and Fire and Emergency said there was a flare-up earlier this morning.
