A homicide inquiry has been launched at Gate Pa in the city, where 52-year-old David Rawiri Kuka died late on Sunday night of a serious head injury.

Police have confirmed it is the same Wilrose Place address where Lance Waite was injured on 3 January, before dying in hospital later that day.

A post mortem and scene examination is being carried out.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.40pm on Sunday.

The victim had suffered a serious injury to the head and was pronounced dead at 11.15pm.

Detective Inspector Lew Warner said the police wanted to speak to anyone who was in the Courtney Road, Wilrose Place and Fraser Street areas between 9pm and midnight on Sunday night.

Police said they were working with Mr Kuka's family and offering them support.
