Police are diverting traffic in Palmerston North because a pile of cars is on fire in a scrap metal yard.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire on Kelvin Grove Road, in the suburb of Kelvin Grove, about 6am.
Vrutil Soni from the local Foursquare said the road was blocked from his shop to the railway crossing.
Police said they were helping with cordons in the area and asked people to stay away.
Firefighters were working on putting the fire out.
