A 21-year old man has appeared in the Tauranga District Court charged with the murder of a woman at a city marae overnight.

The police were called to the marae just before midnight, where a 37-year old woman had suffered neck injuries.
She was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died soon after.
The accused was granted interim name suppression and will appear in the High Court next month.
