A 6-year-old boy has died and three other people are in hospital after a ute went down a bank in the Rangitikei District this afternoon.

Police said one person in the ute had to be winched out by helicopter.
The crash happened on Turakina Valley Road, between Kauaekeke Road and Bald Hill Road.
There were no other vehicles involved and the crash is being investigated.
Meanwhile, in the Far North, a man has died in a two-car crash on State Highway 10 at Awanui, shortly before 6pm.
The man, who was initially trapped and then freed by Fire and Emergency staff, died at the scene.
A woman was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital and two other people were injured.
