A headlamp has saved a man from spending a night out in the bush is the freezing cold.

At 10pm last night a helicopter equipped with night vision was sent to look for a 68-year-old Invercargill man missing in the Hokonui Forest near Gore.
They were easily able to spot the man thanks to him being able to signal them with his headlamp.
He was then winched from thick bush on the side of a steep gully.
