The number of homes and businesses without power in Auckland after Tuesday night's storm has dipped below 3000.

The lines company Vector said the figure was fluctuating between 1500 and 2500, because continued poor weather and more falling trees were causing new or additional damage to existing faults.

About 350 properties were still without power in the Counties Power area.

Vector said its crews would be working 24/7 until everyone was reconnected, but some people could be waiting until mid-next week for power to be back on.

Crews had seen massive amounts of tree damage right across Auckland and Vector said anyone who sees a tree with damaged branches should alert the landowner or Auckland Council.

Meanwhile, welfare teams have been out again today checking on people who don't have power.

With more bad weather forecast for Monday, Auckland Council said people should check any loose outdoor items were secure and gutters were cleared.

Portaloos and drinking water have been delivered to homes that need it.

A number of community hubs are open until 4pm today for people who need support.

The hubs are at the Waimauku War Memorial Hall, the Kumeu Library, Massey Leisure Centre, Waitakere Domain Hall, Waiatarua Fire Station and Fickling Convention Centre.

The Bethells Beach, Waitakere, Muriwai, Kaukapakapa and Puhoi fire stations are also open for people to charge phones, shower, and get food, tea and coffee.

Anyone with spoiled food as a result of the power outage can dispose of it for free at the Waitakere Transfer Station in Henderson. If people can't get to the transfer station and have more than three rubbish sacks of spoiled food, can arange a special collection.
