Police have charged a Lyttelton man with a spate of burglaries in the Canterbury port town.

The 30-year-old has been charged with seven counts of burglary and one of theft from a vehicle.
Police said some of the properties were burgled while people were at home and more charges are likely.
The man is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court next month.
