A police officer has been charged over illegally using a Taser while on duty in Auckland last year.
The 24-year-old man faces a charge of assault with a weapon and presenting a restricted weapon.
Superintendent Karyn Malthus said an internal employment investigation would be conducted pending the outcome of the court case.
During this time the officer will not be on front line duties.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority is also investigating.
