Police are appealing for information after shots were fired at Te Araroa police station on East Cape Thursday night.

The shots were fired on Rata Street about 10.30, police said.
The Armed Offenders Squad responded to the incident and the sole officer in the property at the time was unharmed.
Tairawhiti Area Commander, Inspector Matt Broderick, said a police vehicle that was parked nearby was damaged.
Police took threats against staff incredibly seriously and were committed to holding those responsible to account, he said.
