It follows a spate of attacks on vehicles throughout the Whangārei area, with 84 cases reported in June alone.

All up, the police have had more than 100 complaints about tyres being slashed or set alight - in some cases leaving the vehicles' owners stranded.

Inspector Justin Rogers said a team of detectives had been working on finding the culprits and the investigation had been a challenging one.

Two men aged 26 and 28 years, have been arrested and charged with the tyre-slashing attacks, and further charges are imminent, he said.

The pair have been remanded in custody and will appear in the Whangārei District Court later this month.
