Police are looking for an intruder who assaulted an elderly man in his home in Christchurch.
Detective Sergeant Brad Grainger said a 70-year-old man was repeatedly hit on the head with a sharp object at his home in Bamford Street in Woolston, about 7pm yesterday.
The elderly man went to his back door to check a disturbance, and a masked offender, dressed in dark clothing, grabbed the man and hit him on the head, before leaving, Mr Grainger said.
The elderly man was treated at Christchurch Hospital and has since been discharged, Mr Grainger said.
