Officials said needles were found in three strawberries from the western Australian Choice brand last month.

It is the only case of needles in strawberries in New Zealand, but there have been spate of reports in Australia.

Police said they were closing the case because there were no other avenues of enquiry at this stage.

The Ministry for Primary Industries said consumers should still keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.
