A man charged with kidnapping a woman and holding a knife to her throat in a South Auckland mall has appeared in court.

The 30-year-old appeared in the Manukau District Court earlier today and has been remanded in custody.
The incident at Westfield in Manukau City involved 40 minutes of negotiations between the police and the man, before the knife was dropped and the woman released. The woman was uninjured.
The man will reappear in court next Monday.
