Acquarium Kelly Tarlton's says while it's flattered a group of Auckland businesses wants it to be a part of a proposed downtown stadium, it's happy where it is.

The Auckland Waterfront Consortium wants the stadium built as part of a major development at Bledisloe Wharf, labelling it as the city's Sydney Opera House.

The consortium's deputy chair, Mike Sage, said the stadium could contain a Māori cultural centre, a conference centre and Kelly Tarlton's could move into the basement.

He is asking Auckland Council to carry out a feasibility study for the building.

In a statement, a Kelly Tarlton's spokesperson said it was glad to be considered for the historic proposed development.

"The stadium sounds like a great 'oppor-tuna-ty' and any 'fin' is possible.

"Although the concept is interesting, we're swimming along nicely where we are given Kelly's legacy to New Zealand."
