It is believed the crime, which took place between 10pm on Friday, 26 October and 6am the next day, involved the use of heavy machinery to lift the safe.

Police in the West Coast executed search warrants on an address in Greymouth yesterday and recovered the safe.

A 54-year-old man was arrested and will appear in Greymouth District Court today on burglary charges and unrelated drug offences.

Police believe another offender may have been involved and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or heard any loud machinery operating in the Cobden area to contact Greymouth Police on (03) 768 2628, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
