The men, aged 21 and 22, were charged today after an armed robbery at the Waipara Superette on 10 November.

Both men attempted to avoid arrest and police say one was apprehended after allegedly trying to leave a property on horseback.

They have been charged with aggravated robbery and for their alleged involvement in the theft of cars and recent local burglaries.

The men are due to appear in the Kaikohe District Court tomorrow.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said there has been a spate of recent offending including the armed robbery of the Okaihau Liquor Store in September.

A 16-year-old male has also been arrested for his alleged involvement as a getaway driver in the robbery.

"Both of these armed robberies were extremely dangerous events, putting people's lives at risks," said Mr Johnston.
