The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) had said the lane on on the Kāpiti Expressway would be shut until Friday from 5am to 6pm.

The road works were dependent on weather conditions and "other factors". Just after 9am on Wednesday, NZTA said the work was postponed. No alternative dates were given.

Some of the Kāpiti Expressway has previously been replaced because water and discolouration began appearing on the surface.

Later in the year the NZTA revealed that 14 kilometres of the 18km, $630 million road needed to be resealed.

The expressway was opened in February 2017. A month later, it was already being described as a failure.

It was still springing leaks as repairs continued last year.

The expressway was built to give motorists a quicker route between Paekakariki and Ōtaki.
