Four children are among eight people injured when two vans collided in Pukekohe, south of Auckland, today.
Police said the serious crash near the intersection of Gun Club Road and Schlaepfer Road was reported before 11.30am.
Emergency services remain at the scene of the crash
Police say one of the children is in a critical condition, another a serious condition.
Two other children suffered moderate injuries.
The children are aged between six and 13.
Police said their initial inquiries indicated that some of the occupants of one of the vans were not restrained.
Gun Club Road was closed at the intersection of Helvetia Road and cordons are in place.
The Serious Crash Unit is attending.
