One person has died after a four-car crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway near Tanakini.

Two others are in a serious condition, and two are in a minor to moderate condition.
One southbound lane has now been reopened, while others remain closed.
Police said earlier they would also be closing the northbound lanes, with diversions in place.
The closures are expected to be in place for some hours and motorists are being warned to avoid the area if possible.
The Serious Crash Unit will examine the scene.
