One person has died and another is in a critical condition after a car crashed into a tree north of Wellington.
Police say the car crashed into a tree at the bottom of a steep driveway of a house in the suburb of Paremata at 12.50pm.
Members of the public rushed to help the pair at the Walker Grove address, but one person died at the scene and the second is in Wellington Hospital in a critical condition.
Emergency services were at the scene and investigations are continuing.
