The Waikato District Health Board says the 24-year-old died from meningococcal septicaemia last Friday.

All of her close contacts have been assessed.

The DHB said there is no risk to the public but people should be aware of the symptoms of the disease.

They include slurred speech, extreme shivering or muscle pain, not passing urine or mottled skin.
