State Highway Two at Mangatawhiri in the Franklin District was closed on Sunday evening following a collision between a car and a vehicle towing a horse float.
The accident occurred at the intersection of MacPherson Road with one car said to be fully engulfed in flames.
Both drivers and the three horses being transported were injured but it's not known to what extent.
The road had been reopened by Monday morning.
